C and N Backpackers Hostel Port Hardy - Port Hardy, Canada

Category: Hostel

Address: 8740 Main street Port Hardy - Port Hardy, Canada

Gay friendly

Description: Port Hardy - where the highway ends and the adventure begins....

Surrounded by the scenic splendor of northern Vancouver Island, Port Hardy is the starting point for all kinds of adventures including journeys by ferry to Prince Rupert up the Inside Passage to the Queen Charlotte Islands. Port Hardy is the largest community on the northern tip of Vancouver Island and offers the advantages of urban amenities, but keeps its small town charm.

Port Hardy is also the starting point of the scenic and adventurous 46km-long North Coast Trail. This trail offers hikers and wild life enthusiasts stunning scenery, abundant wildlife and a remoteness found in only few places on earth. The North Coast Trail will join the existing 20 km-long Cape Scott Trail at Fisherman's Bay near Nissen Bight - a world renowned wilderness beach destination.

Situated in the heart of downtown Port Hardy, our hostel is located steps away from the bus depot, tourist information booth, ocean seawall and shops. From the hostel you can start your visit with a stroll, bike or roller-blade along the seawall. At one end of the seawall is the habour with Coast Guard station, fishing troller's and sailing boats. You can also find several arts and crafts shops including the Cape Scott Gallery with its beautiful First Nation artwork. The small museum of Port Hardy gives you a glimpse into the colourful past of this northern region.

Beyond the seawall is the GWA'SALA- Nakwaxda'xw tribal council big house project. The First Nations culture has flourished on the North Island for thousands of years. A visit to the aboriginal village of Port Rupert exhibits their rich First Nations heritage. Just around the shore bend is Storey's beach, a great place to hang out in the sun on the fine sand beach, or have a picnic in the park. If you're lucky, you may see a whale swimming by or a black bear on the side of the highway. Bird watchers will find a large variety of resident and migratory bird species at the Quatse River estuary.

Across the street from the Port Hardy hostel is the local tourist info center, where you will find help to start your adventure into the wilds. Port Hardy is famous for seakayaking, salt water as well fresh water fishing, diving, boating, whale watching, bear watching, and hiking.
