Sister Hostel of Galway City's award-winning Sleepzone Hostel

Getting to The Connemara Hostel:

An easy and enjoyable way to travel to The Connemara Hostel is with Galway Tour Company. The bus collects at Sleepzone Galway City every day at 9.45am, does a tour of Connemara, and you can 'Jump Off' at The Connemara Hostel at about 2.00pm.

When you would like to return to Galway City you can simply 'Jump On' again, complete the tour of Connemara and return to Galway City by about 6.00pm. Discount tickets are available at Reception at Sleepzone in Galway.

This tour includes Ashford Castle, Cong, Kylemore Abbey & Gardens, the Inagh Valley and Killary fjord.

Don't forget to pick up some food in Galway City or in the village of Cong, if you need to.

The Connemara Hostel is a sister hostel of the highly-rated Sleepzone in Galway City.

Overlooking The Killary - Ireland's only fjord - and surrounded by the peaks of The Twelve Bens, Maumturk and Mweelrea mountains in the centre of Connemara, it is probably one of the most spectacularly situated hostels anywhere in Western Europe.

The Connemara Hostel offers a range of accommodation in private and dormitory rooms (over 100 beds in 21 rooms) - all ensuite, free WiFi & internet access, bureau de change, tourist information as well as a fully-equipped self-catering kitchen and its own tennis court.

Another of its attractions is that it is situated right next door to the Killary Adventure Company, so a range of adventure activities and outdoor pursuits are available literally on its doorstep.

It's also a great base for some of Connemara's most fantastic walks and hikes; scuba diving, fishing and beaches are all nearby, and bike rental is also available. Please ask our staff at reception - they will gladly share their knowledge of the area with you.

If activity doesn't appeal to you though, the serenity of the location of Sleepzone Connemara is an attraction in itself. Watch a movie from our movie library, read a book or meet other guests in one of our common rooms.

N.B. Remember this property is quite isolated. While we have vending machines that sell drinks and snacks, if planning on preparing meals yourself it is advisable to bring food with you, rather than having to drive or walk a few miles to buy groceries.

Environmental Policy - Sleepzone Hostels

* Sleepzone Hostels are dedicated to the long-term goal of using sustainable energy forms, and have recently completed the installation of solar panels in Sleepzone Connemara, with plans in place for installation at Sleepzone – The Burren when circumstances permit.

* Electricity for each Sleepzone is wind-generated via Airtricity

* Sleepzone Hostels reduce the amount of energy consumed wherever possible – using low-watt bulbs, insulating our older properties and replacing old and inefficient equipment.

* The hostels source local services whenever possible for service, maintenance and security work.

* The hostels recycle all cardboard, glass, plastic and aluminium

* We encourage our customers to use public transport to access our hostels whenever possible – we have also secured a competitive rate for transport with local tour buses that travel to the rural regions daily.

* We are converting to the use of materials from sustainable sources for our promotional materials (either recycled material, or materials from sustainable forests) and for our energy needs (with the installation of solar panels and conversion to the use of biomass fuels).

* We encourage our guests to abide by the Seven Principles of Leave no Trace in order to conserve biodiversity in the regions where our rural properties are located in particular.
